What a fantastic day for the Quins. We won premierships in 1st and 2nd grade to go with the premiership that the colts won a few weeks ago. Not only did we win the premierships but the following club members also won awards:

  • VRU Volunteer of the Year - Brock Parker
  • VRU Coach of the Year - Ruhan van Zyl
  • Player of the Match (1st XV) - Jack de Guingand
  • VRU U20 Representative Player of the Year - Thomas Bohle
  • Rebel Rising Player of the Year - Bill Valetini

Congratulations to all our individual award winners and everyone associated with the 1st, 2nd and Colts premiership teams.

The day started with the 2nds winning against Melbourne 31-29. The match was hard fought and Quins led 28-12 with about 12 minutes to go. However Melbourne are never beaten until they are beaten and they scored three quick tries to lead 29-28 with two minutes to go. Quins settled and fought back to gain a penalty in front of the posts about 40 metres out. When the ball sailed through for a 31-29 score line the referee blew the full-time whistle and the premiership was ours.

‚Äč The 1st XV kicked against the wind in the first half and turned around for the second half with Melbourne leading 12-10. However Quins worked hard in the second half and opened up a lead of 17 points to be ahead 29-12 with fifteen minutes to go. As they had done in the seconds Melbourne rallied and scored two converted tries to get within three points of Quins with minutes to go. Melbourne moved into our half putting pressure on the Quins scrum and were awarded a penalty outside on the 22 close to the sideline. Their kick went wide and the whistle blew for a 29-26 win to the Quins.

The day capped off a great year for the Quins and has been a fantastic reward for the effort that has been put in by everyone in the club.
