Grand Final versus Endeavour Hills
8th Sep 2014
The 2 top teams contested the U11's Grand Final. During the regular season each team had won their home game against each other so it was always going to be a close game.
Lachie kicked off into the breeze and Quins quickly got into gear spreading the ball wide and cleaning out well in the ruck allowing Sam to have quick disposals.
An early penalty followed by another 2 saw us attacking their line with Isaac just failing to get the ball over the line when it was knocked from his hands.
After a short break (due the field being incorrectly marked) the boys won a line out against the throw and Simon did a great stepping run before off loading to Isaac to score in the corner.
Endeavour Hills kicked the ball out from the kick off and from the resulting line out Lachie kicked down field and Zions great chase saw them into touch.
Through good clearances from the scrum Jacob was quickly spreading the ball allowing Michael to do some barnstorming runs up the middle.
The game went through a period where both sides gave away a few penalties. It was only through the continued quality clean outs and tackling by Jay and Ted that we managed to hold field position.
After a turnover Oliver re-gathered, passed to Jacob, onto Jabril and Ewan showed his usual class stepping (breaking 4 tackles) to score under the posts for Lachie to convert.
For the remainder of the half through strong defense and solid running we were able to keep Endeavour Hills scoreless.
The Endeavour Hills coach had obviously said something to their boys at half time as they came out with renewed vigor and they piled on pressure and were unlucky to score a try after being ruled offside. The boys were holding the pressure with good forward work by Angus, Ryan and Cormac, but finally we cracked with Endeavour Hills scoring wide in the corner.
This seemed to fire Endeavour Hills up and their scrum went up a notch which put added pressure on our banks. Some good defense from Scott and Jack pushed them briefly into touch before they regather and scored under the posts and converted. Scores were level with only minutes to go and the parents were even more tense than the boys.
Endeavour Hills won a feed against our scum and promptly again scored under the posts and converted.
The boys battle bravely to get another score on the board but Endeavour Hills defended strongly to hold us out and win the game.
It has been a great season by the boys winning the Minor Premiership and making it to the Grand Final. Whilst they just missed on the win they can hold their heads high and will come back even stronger next year!
Thanks to Coach Peely for his dedication and persistent in really developing the boys and to all the parents who have helped the out over the year.
