Team:

U11 Blue

Match Report by Jeremiah O'Brien: On Saturday we played against Moorabbin even though our game was late and we were so cold I think we played a good game of rugby even though we lost.

I think we need to work more on our tackling. I was happy with the way all our boys played especially Blair & Louis who score 2 tries and Blair making the conversion.

I would also like to thank the boys that came out to help us from the Maroon  team.

U11 Maroon

Match Report by Jeremiah Sialau: Friday 31st July was one of the coldest nights in Melbourne, but despite of the wind, cold and wet field/ground we, Team Maroon are always up for a challenge. We played Melbourne at home. What an awesome game it was. We played well as a team and a fantastic effort by all.

So well done Maroon.

Final score Harlequin Maroon 43, Melbourne 0.

Special thanks to our supporters and our parents for their continuous and endless support throughout the season.

Bring on the next game…

Another home game on the main pitch at Harlequins and the opposition were the Wyndham Rhinos. This was a high quality game evenly contested and played with great spirit; a tribute to the players. Wyndham were ready to play from the kick off and scored early points to rattle our team a bit. The Rhinos played a good supporting game with plenty of passes, support play and lots of off loads in the tackle. For our part, we didn’t seem to be able to get out of first gear, we went too high into contact and no cleaning out at the ruck so the Rhinos were able to steal possession with ease, whilst our defence was a bit all over the place and our tackling too high, hence Wyndham did all the scoring in the first half.

The second half was a much better team effort and our defence held them scoreless. Our support play and cleanouts were now working and we were able to run into space, with Hugo finishing off a couple of great tries. The end result was a game of two halves.

Things to work on; first up, tackles need to be low, we tried a number of tiger ball moves, however the ball carrier kept running sideways and away from support: we need to run straight, and again supporting the tackled player with numbers at the rucks driving over and cleaning out the opposition.

Well done to Aminio for player of the match award, and honorable mentions to Hugo, Laeima, Kai, Xavier T and James, and special thanks to Louie T for coming up from the 9s to help out with numbers.
