Harlequin Juniors - Round 12 2016

1st Aug 2016

Match Date:
30th Jul 2016

With plenty of momentum coming into this weeks game after the win against Powerhouse and a good session on Wednesday the boys felt good in the warm ups however Moorabbin couldn't be taken lightly.

Harlequins had a great start to the game with the forwards remaining strong despite uncontested scrums and the backs utilising their speed, burning the Moorabbin defence around the outside numerous times. Atu was the first try scorer following some good rucking phases by the forwards. A few minutes later Sam was able to find the try line after the boys were able to stretch Moorabbin's defensive line thin. The boys continued to apply pressure on the Moorabbin defence and holes were starting to show. The backs were able to cross the line a few more times eventually half time came and we lead 39 - 0.

The second half started off much like the first with our backs finding then gaps in the defence, however, Moorabbin after getting down to our 22 managed to score off a linnet following some miscommunication between our players. Not all was lost with Jaedyn scoring a try on the outside and Charlie finishing a great run started by Atu, Josh in only his second game for the club also scored a try. The forwards all game were looking strong and the backs were dangerous. Hopefully we can continue this into next weeks training and game against Endeavour Hills.

Final Score: Harlequins - 63   Moorabbin - 12

On Friday night 29/07/2016 we played Melbourne Unicorns.

I think that we played a very good game seeing that we did win 50-17.

We went on the pitch pumped and ready to win our first game in two weeks.

I think that in the first half the Melbourne Unicorns gave a really good fight and we, just won the first half. But after half time break we went on knowing we weren’t playing at our hardest and started to score a few more tries. During the second half Melbourne Unicorns started to drop out a little so we started running it through the middle more, scoring some good tries.

Things that we could have done better were things like more intensity as we did have a lot of substitutions.

We also missed a few tackles that let them run through us. But other than that I think we played a very good game.

Today we played the best we have played all year.

The forwards were cleaning out and getting to the breakdowns the backs were working as a team and had some good runs.

Spencer scored 2 awesome try's by running hard and straight. Finn also scored a great try by running as fast as he could and not giving up.

Everyone was tackling really well and we didn't let Melton run though us like they did earlier in the season.

I want to say good work to everyone and if we keep on playing like that we can win the comp.

This weeks’ game was at Harlequins home ground, where we played against Geelong Rams

The final score was Harlequins 59 vs Geelong 7. The try scorers were Francis, Sione, Jeremiah, Blair, Patrick 2, Sam, Kobi & Tom Byrne.

I think we played well because our defence was a lot better than the last game & we all played as a team, as Brock instructed at the start of the game, whilst maintaining our focus throughout the whole match.
