U14B's

The under 14B's played Northern on Saturday at their home ground in Reservoir. The 11.30am kick off meant we had a full complement of players with some of our schoolboys being able to make the later start.

The game started slowly for us and a lack of early intensity meant they strolled over for a couple of easy tries before we began to work our way into the game and the forwards started to secure some ball. We looked good when we got the ball wide through the backline and tried to create overlaps, however not helping our cause was that too many times we left our ball carrier isolated or fell off easy tackles when Northern had the ball. We managed to score a late first half try when we moved the ball out to the right wing creating space for Henry Schwartz who made a good run before Dylan Thomas crossed over from a ruck close to the Northern line.

At halftime we were down 27-5 and after coach Chris asked the team to lift their intensity the 2nd half started off better. The forwards led by Jacob Flynt started to clean out the ruck better and the backs had more ball to use with this being our best period of the game. While Northern were able to score again from long range, we crossed for another try of our own with some good lead up work by the backs again getting the ball wide and Henry crossed over with the conversion making the score 34-12.

After this Northern's well drilled forwards and straight running backs were too powerful for us and were able to run in a few more tries to end up winning the game 61-12. While overall a reasonable effort from the Quins boys, a couple of areas to work on are supporting the ball carrier and making effective tackles to bring opposition runners down. The boys to their credit never gave up with Thomas Johnson toiling away in the second row, Euan Oliver making some good runs from inside centre and Harry Smith again making his trademark tackles on larger opponents.

Bye

U11 Blues

Today we played at home to Geelong.

It was a tough game to play from the start. Todays captain was Finlay and Luke was the only try scorer. The score was 7 - 45.

Geelong had some very big and strong players but with some great tackles we made it hard for them.

Elvis laid some awesome tackles and runs well played Quins, better luck next week.

U11 Maroons

That's what happened. We got smashed!

First half, Wyndham dominated possession of the ball and we could not get our heads in the game. We talked ourselves out of the win.

We managed to get a few good plays in the second half but couldn't clean out and tackle like we know how to. Blair scored a try (converted) at the end of the game after a great setup.

Finishing 7 - 50 murmur. ONWARDS & UPWARDS

U10's

This week we saw a great game of two evenly matched teams with great quality being shown by all those involved. In particular our scrum and work around the field supporting the player with ball was exceptional.  Some great team tries were scored by Hugo, Pita, Laiema, Dougie (coming up from the under 9s to help out) and Xavier K.

There was some great passing, with players starting to really run on to the ball. There were times we could have passed the ball to a team mate in space, but held onto the ball and got tackled – something to work on at training to use those outside players when we can!

Our defence is also improving, and the team worked hard to get around to support the tackler. We can still improve in staying in a line and coming up together and tackling low at the opposition players’ legs. The rucks were also good at times. However, particularly in the second half, we were a bit slow to get to some of the rucks and our body height a little too high – which meant we were getting pushed off our ball.
