Stephen Rosengren

Match Date:
30th Aug 2014

The Semi- Final was always going to be a good test of how far the boys had come as a team over the season.  We have shown over the season moments of brilliance, moments of sleepiness and moments of great determination - what were they going to deliver today?

From the start Melbourne came out fighting and we found ourselves on the defensive for the first 5-7 minutes.

After some solid defence we finally got into the attacking half of the field, it looked like we had first points on the board - until it was called back for a forward pass.

Melbourne tried to clear their defensive line by chipping over the top but Zion regathered and ran it back and after some great cleanout work by the forwards, the ball was spun wide to Ewan whose stepping memorised the Melbourne defence to register our first points.

For the next few minutes the game went back and forth with each team conceding several penalties.  However, we were able to play it in Melbourne’s defensive half as a result of some good forward work by Angus, Oliver and Cormac.

After a win from the Melbourne’s lineout the boys did what we do well and spun the ball wide before Scott slipped a clever pass to Ewan (who again proved elusive) to scored his second try under the posts for Lachie to convert.

Melbourne again put pressure on us in attack and looked likely to potentially score had it not been for some solid defence from Ryan and Sam.  Half Time 12-0.

Harlequins kicked off to start the second half and after some strong straight running by Simon and a penalty, Isaac launched himself across the line to score our third try.

Jabril was a key person in defence and produced one of the best tackles of the day to keep Melbourne at bay.

After we had been perched on our line for several minutes Jay made a great break before off loading to Lachie to run away and score a 60 metre try under the posts and convert.

From a penalty on our 22 Lachie clever kicked behind Melbourne and somehow Sam managed to quickly regather, pass to Jacob and then Isaac before Ted ripped it from the opposition and scored.

The boys were not finished and whilst Jack looked like getting across the line he left it to Zion to score a late try in the corner.

The boys all had a great game and everyone contributed to the final score as Dante mentioned at the end of the game.

However, the job is still not done and we have to be even better this week if we are to beat Endeavour Hills.

Go U11 Quins!!!!!!!!!!!!!
