The persistent rain didn’t deter our U16B boys from putting on an absolutely stunning display of running rugby at home versus Box Hill to win 62 – 12. Everybody contributed to a great team effort, even many of the injured players from last week helping with water bottles and numerous trips onto the paddock with the kicking-tees.

The forwards excelled, securing our ball and turning over opposition ball to ensure our hungry backs were well fed. We welcomed our new player “skyscraper” Trevor Hosea to the team and he replied with a wonderful display of powerful running, tackling and support. Sam Blowers was all over the park at open side flanker, winning and securing ball (plus scoring two “meat-pies” as a reward for his efforts!). Hamish continued his powerhouse tackling and hard work in-tight to keep the team going forward and repel any opposition raids. Rory Hall, smallest player in our team, once again cleaned out and tackled opposition players twice his size. Sam McMillan was making his presence felt in everything and everywhere, as usual.

The backs, in particular Robert at #12, couldn’t help but exploit the great go-forward ball and service from the forwards, Eamonn at #9 and Sean at #10. As well as Robert’s  six “meat-pies” and leadership, it was so pleasing to see all the outside backs (Sam Bell, Gus, Katiba, Ethan and Clayton) flying in action, in both attack and defence, working off Robert’s power plays. Last, but not least,  mention must be made of Finley Dale’s dedication, backing up from an earlier school boy’s game with half a game with us, strong running and three tries to match.

Tries:

Robert Valetini * 6

Finley Dale * 3

Sam Blowers * 2

Ethan Lynch * 1
